Aseptic and operating room sterility is one of the foundational principles for successful implant and regenerative surgery. This course begins with an historical overview of asepsis and early infection control. The course continues with discussion of important terms that are commonly used when discussing asepsis, sterilization, and infection control. Proper techniques for sterilizing instruments and surfaces will be taught. Surgical arena and staff preparation will be demonstrated. Maintenance of an efficient chain of sterility will be emphasized. A hands-on segment will allow participants to experience the implementation of a correct aseptic technique. Finally, a summary checklist that dental personnel may find useful will be presented.
