Prof. Dr. Matthias Karl studied dentistry in Erlangen, Germany from 1997 to 2003. He subsequently gained experience in different private practices and received a summa cum laude doctorate in dentistry in 2004. Focussing his research on the biomechanics of the implant-bone complex, Matthias Karl started working in the Department of Prosthodontics at Erlangen dental school in 2005 and spent a year as ITI Scholar in the Department of Reconstructive Sciences, School of Dental Medicine, University of Connecticut, USA. He received his postdoctoral lecture qualification at the end of 2008. In April 2016 he was awarded a professorship at Erlangen University and since December 2016 he has been chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at Saarland University Dental School.
