Focusing on techniques that minimize complications, participants will learn when to use bone blocks, what works and does not work, where bone blocks are useful, and why. Participants will perform block grafting exercises and gain experience placing bone block from initial incision to closure. This is a hands-on workshop highlighting the use of bone blocks in grafting atrophic ridges prior to implant placement. Participants will be exposed to a diagnostic algorithm used to determine the indications for bone block grafting and the various flap designs used for successful placement. Flap designs and flap release techniques that allow "tension-free" closure will be taught, including tunnel techniques. The use and indications for membranes and biologic materials to aid in osseous grafting will be an integral part of this workshop. Tips and techniques for the management of complications will be discussed in detail. Participants familiar with bone block grafting will improve their knowledge and skills to achieve zero complications. Participants new to bone block grafting will take home the knowledge and skills necessary to implement bone block grafting procedures into their implant practices with confidence.
Learning Objectives:
Learn the indications for the use of bone block grafting procedures
Understand the technique for successful bone block placement
Identify the risks associated with bone block placement and how to manage complications
