The basic principles of work simplification will be presented followed by the various ways of handling surgical instruments to maximize the effectiveness of their use. Alternative grips and the detailed use of needle holders, tissue pickups, and suture scissors will be demonstrated. The appropriate suture needles and suture materials to be used in different situations will be discussed. The need for tension-free suturing with tight knots will be emphasized, as well as ways to relieve flaps to allow tension free closure. Many different type of suture techniques will be practiced, from simple interrupted sutures and mattress sutures to more complicated sutures such as locking continuous sutures and sling sutures. When to use each suture will be explained
