We will begin by defining and setting a standard for emotional intelligence using theoretical constructs and practical application. To follow, tools to build emotional self-regulation and mindfulness will be addressed as strategies to cope in a high-pressure environment, in quiet moments, and in-between. Self care techniques will be explored to build on strength and prevent burnout. The speaker will define assertiveness and, specifically, assertive communication, and will bring these concepts to life with examples. Finally, team building concepts and techniques will be examined from the perspective of the individual, coworkers, and the office’s mission. An experiential team building exercise will be integrated into the course.
Learning Objectives:
Learn to distinguish between a "triggered" fight-flight-freeze state and a healthy, curious, higher-brain state
Learn to identify two effective coping skills to perform under pressure and promote self-care
Explore assertiveness as a balance between the needs of the "I" and the "we" in the office and beyond
