Dental Pharmacology Applied to the Dental Implant Patient: Evidence-based Considerations for Analgesics, Antibiotics, and Newer Medical Drugs Affecting Implant Success (606)
Review of the dental implant surgeon literature-based protocols for the use of antibiotics and analgesics for the implant patient. The presentation will also discuss concerns regarding patients taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and protein pump inhibitors (PPIs) as this relates to implant osteointegration.
Learning Objectives:
Appreciate the benefit of antibiotics on implant success, but realize that there are no standardized antibiotic protocols
Identify commonly used analgesic protocols for application and management of post-op discomfort of the implant patient
Appreciate potential impairments to implant osseointegration posed by patients taking SSRIs and PPIs, and provide appropriate informed consent and clinical judgement
